About

Maurizio D'Agapito

Musician & photographer — between Italy and Estonia

I'm an Italian living in the north. I've spent my life between languages and countries, and somewhere along the way the camera became the quietest way I have of paying attention.

The Absent Look began as a simple habit: photographing the places most people walk past. Empty streets, winter afternoons, the pause between one moment and the next. I'm drawn to absence — to what a scene holds when nothing is happening in it. A boat left on still water. A figure crossing an empty square at night. The silence that settles over ordinary things.

I work mostly in black and white, and mostly alone, walking. Italy taught me light; Estonia taught me silence. Between the two I try to make images that don't raise their voice — photographs about distance, memory, and the strange tenderness of overlooked places.

Thank you for looking.
